Redundancy

The DR maintains access to four international cables through the Americas Region Caribbean Optical-Ring System Cable (ARCOS-1) with separate in-country landing points ensuring our connection to the U.S. is fully redundant.

The Americas Region Caribbean Optical - Ring System (ARCOS) is an undersea fiber optic - cable system that was developed to link the Caribbean region to the USA.

The efficient topology of ARCOS (physical ring) makes the network fully redundant, allowing ARCOS to automatically select the strongest signal for optimal transmission quality and reliability, while providing built-in real-time signal restoration. In the event of cable failure, network restoration is achieved via SNCP (Sub Network Connection Protection). The protection switching is almost immediate and traffic is not affected unless the system suffers multiple failures.

Nearshore currently has dual 20 Mbps redundant fiber optic connections using the local telecom providers afore mentioned and deploys a complete VoiP solution through carriers in the U.S.

Nearshore's sites are 100% redundant from electricity interruption by using multiple 160Kw UPS and 475KW back-up power generators capable of providing electricity for each facilities for up to 1 month if need be.
